| Olivier CARON aka "Carman",
a funky trombone player from the West Coast (in France, that
is!). Graduated from Nantes’ CNR in 1986
and from Rueil Malmaison Conservatory of Music in 1988,
Olivier quickly gave preference to groovy combos instead
of symphonic orchestras.
His major influences are James BROWN, Georges CLINTON,
PARLIAMENT, Bootsy COLLINS as well as Louis ARMSTRONG, T
Bone WALKER, Johnny Guitar WATSON …
He moved to Toulouse and started collaborating with local
R&B bands, playing notably with "FORMIDABLE",
Daniel ANTOINE, the funky guys from "CATMEN".
He also recorded with blues trio “FLY & THE TOX"...
He came back in Paris in 1996. Since then, he’s been
playing around the world: West Indies, Quebec, the USA,
Africa, the Reunion Island and Europe, playing different
bands in various styles:
• Blues with Boney FIELDS or Fred CLAYTON
• Disco-Funk with DI LOOP and THE DISCO FAMILY
• Gospel with TOWER OF GOSPEL
• Salsa with loads of bands like MAMBOMANIA, MOSQUITO,
Hidegar MARACAÏ Salsa, TUMBAO Y TROMBÓN, AZUQUITA,
Nancy MURILLO y su Rico Chagui…
• African music with AFRICANDO
• And some World Music with René LACAILLE.

the most scorching funk or play subtle blue notes on complex
jazz progressions or blues standards.
