| A
second album « Red Wolf” to be released in October 2003,
presented in a superb digipack, under the label “On the Corner”
(Nocturne Distribution).
13 new headlines, mainly personal
compositions that make us discover another dimension of the Blues.
Far from sticking to the “guitar hero” style or limiting
itself to a 12 bars shuffle, this album offers a repertoire with
plenty of horns and a very strong Funk influence.
The artist’s Chicago Blues
origins are still very prevalent on numerous titles. Also a little
touch of World Music .... This switching from one style to the other
occurs smoothly as the pathways seem so obvious and natural.
A must for all Groove lovers.

The
Boney Fields' second album « Red Wolf » is
simply a fullfilling experience. The variety and richness of
his style, be it through jazz, rhythm 'n' blues, funk or Chicago
blues is amazing! It is expressed not only through the Teflon
grooves, thanks to a rhythm section showing absolutely no sign
of weakness, but also by the powerful horn riffs and growling
trumpet soli! (…) Boney's funk demonstrates his
joy of life in a way that couldn't be categorized! This man drinks
at the essence of the blues, and we the listeners, are taken
to a trip on a planet where music seems to be the only real thing
!!!

The
great funk entertainer Boney Fields has released a hot new CD
untitled « Red Wolf ». And my! Oh, my!
What have we got here? An energizing, tonifying CD! (…)
From the first instrumental track opening the album, one knows
exactly what kind of mood is about to be set: a solid Chicago
funk blues, like in « Jump To The Blues »,
either to dance to or to listen with your friends while sipping
a nice cool drink. Boney's funk blues is not angry: it
preaches for a better understanding (Live In Peace). Boney Fields'
voice is very nice and well rooted in the blues tradition. With
Red Wolf, Boney offers us a excellent CD, both for dance to and
also to listen to.

Boney
fields is just one those guys that will make you stomp your feet
as soon as he gets on the stage, simply because he's has got
so much groove contained in him!
Give him a microphone and Boney will make you daydreaming about the masters of
the rhythm'n'blues, of the soul and the funk. Give him a trumpet and he will
impress you by his spontaneous and brilliant playing! A talented composer, the
newly-parisian has been writing most of the songs on the « Red Wolf » CD,
making us walking in the shadows of James Brown or even James Cotton (like in « Boogie
Thing »). You can only notice the incredible power of the rhythm section
where the bass is omnipresent, as well as the sheer quality of Boney's voice.
(…)
Some will say that the Bone's Project is sounding too
American, or too French, or too funky, or even too rhythm and
not enough blues. But for those who will take the step of going
to see Boney and his Bones on stage, there will be no turning
back: they will have to have some more! (...)
Indisputably, Red Wolf is a great album, from a great artist.

Boney
Fields: a howlin’ wolf with a velvet voice… Or a little
tenderness in a world of wild funk-blues!
About the wolf, it starts howling from track # 1 with a pure funk
instrumental only waiting to be played in front of an audience
spirited with Red Wolf beer.… Sax and trumpet soli! Fuckin’
hell, the guys are playing! The horns are everywhere on this album.
Why is it so? Boney Fields was born with gospel and blues, see
what I mean? The guy’s been in there since day one! (…)
His nickname doesn’t describe the man well enough: It’s
such a striking contrast between his huge physical presence, his
dreadlocks, that bowler that never seems to leave his head…
and his sweet and light voice.
(…) Boogie Thing (a James Cotton Cover) is just pure madness!
Boogie, boogie all night long! (…)
The 13 songs of this album are coming out from a musical mix ranging
from disco-reggae (Live In Peace) to some funk à la James
Brown (Making It Funky), through Jazz (Hello Brother is an homage
to Louis Armstrong) and even Zydeco, on the 14th hidden track
(at the end of the CD). And then, there is blues as well with
“Young Man Playing The Blues”.
So Grannies you all watch out, because the energy released by
this band will rock your peacemakers out your chests!!

Blues – #13 march/april/may 2004
This
is brass activism of a specific kind ! Energetic, elegant and
sophisticated, this is a real invitation to move and even to dance.
Second opus of a trumpet player with phosphorescent notes, who
projects his blues with a very contemporary sound. The groove
machine is fully and freely expressed (...) Meandering introductions,
sparkling rythms, warm atmospheres (…)
The album delivers a pulsating music in mutation in the same
line as the Chicago Playboys. Boney FIELDS, the formidable trumpet
player reveals an undisputable talent here. A musicality and elegance
beyond standards.

Presto –
march 2004
The
trumpet player and singer Boney FIELDS has enjoyed an international
recognition for 20 years and his repertoire reveals his multifarious
talent : blues, jazz, funk… (…) He takes roots in
a soul powered r’n’b and the american touch of the
Band doesn’t undermine the Frontman’s charisma (…).
And what a band these Bone’s ! Steel-like groove, rythms
out there, a wild and provocative brass section. Red Wolf makes
us think of the famous Tex Avery, do you remember the Little Red
riding Chaperon ? AhOuuuu... A sound track that ‘s going
to make your TV implode and your slippers burn, yes something
that drags you by your pants, across the woods, a basket under
your arm. Granny, why are your cheeks so big? Hihi...

Boney
FIELDS, it’s Rythm & Blues in action ! The Bone’s
project is more like the uppercut of a funky band that sticks
to your ears... Since Fishbone, it has been rare to get so excited
for a band of this caliber (…). Boney FIELDS music combines
the Big Band spirit with an uncredible will to play every kind
of music, blurring labels. It goes fast, very fast even in this
“Red Wolf” because this American doesn’t beat
around the bush.
(…) We are constantly under the musicians pressure, it’s
like receiving an injection of groove (…). This is not a
myth, Boney FIELDS in concert messes up all your references.

Blues & Co
– #27 march/april/may 2004
(..)
As a wild, independent and elusive band leader, Boney FIELDS delivers
here with these thirteen songs his version of the twenty-one century
Blues (…)
All we know about him is that he can blow (…) Four years
after his Hard Work, he is coming back, full of adrenaline. Boney
combines here the talent of a show man and the creativity of a
composer.
The brass section goes all the way and he is the maestro. John
DALGAARD is very much at ease with the ivories and Hervé
SAMB is wonderful with his guitar on many tracks.
Melvin CARLISLE and Mike ARMOOGUM mark the groove. The funk is
out there, explosive, from the very first song “Red Wolf”.
The tone is given, this catchy and vibrating new-born is bouncing
with the groove by all means. The “Boogie Thing” of
COTTON is a must.
The melodious and soft slow blues “I gave the blues to myself”
and “Young boy playing the blues” are worth your money.
Boney FIELDS and his Bone’s Project put us in ecstasy and
take us to the groovy and funk planet of the Chicago scene.
A hot and swinging delight.

Bleu Blanc Blues
– January 2004
(…)
what stems out of this CD is an impression of party, with an enjoyable
rythm & blues groove. It’s swinging all the way (...)
As for the horns, the shine and beat are as expected (very good
arrangements).
A special mention to “I gave the blues to myself”,
superb slow blues where Boney’s voice is incredibly warm
and soft, and also to “Young boy playing the blues”
for its magnificent wha wha guitar at the beginning and then for
its very bluesy solo. In fact, all musicians are excellent : keyboards,
drums, bass, horns, that’s a lot of people !
As you can see, this album is rich of sounds, rythms and feelings...
and of course, you have to see them on stage to fully enjoy them
(as for Lucky Peterson’s opening at the Blues sur Seine
Festival in november 2003 that we will remember for a long time).

La Gazette de Greenwood
– #55 november 2003
Four
years after Hard Work, the unique Boney Fields new CD is finally
on the market (…) This album is very well produced. It sounds
great (...) Already with the first piece, we know we are on the
right track. Red Wolf is an instrumental that takes you to heaven
on a prodigious musical trip where the groove prevails. (...)
This album sounds very funky of course, like the JB’s,
and it’s even better when the music is so great. But before
all, it is a Blues album, the one from Chicago, the one we like,
played by outstanding musicians and with Boney Fields singing,
it’s an absolute delight! (...)
This album is a musical delight confirming again that Boney Fields
belongs to the greatest bluesmen and musicians. Everything is
superbly orchestrated and played. The album is of high quality
and it feels good listening to this CD. We just have to get a
taste of it again and again on stage !

A
vivid album that is an essential piece for all those who like
Rythm&Blues. Boney’s compositions are of high quality
and “Red Wolf” largely stands out among all the dull
productions currently on the market. It provides us with a brillant
itinerary steadily marked by this off-track Rythm & Blues.
A trip of 14 stops in the country of a modernized rythm in line
with its time. A collection of strong and deep sensations that
is well mixed (...) Let’s have an other round of “Red
Wolf” because at Backstage we do like the big nasty wolf
!

Docteur Blues –

Red
Wolf : The King of Growl
Boney with his bowler hat on his head knows how to warm up an
audience. Accompagnied by 6 musicians united by the groove, the
trumpet player is at ease with any style of our favourite music;
it’s straight forward, very professional and well produced.
A twenty-five year old carreer does the rest (...)
With all these styles merged together, ambiances are very urban,
as you can understand : a real modern blues
With the background vocals as well as good old Johan Dalgaard’s
synthesizer chords, Motown is not far neither ... Yes, Boney knows
how to pick up people to surround himself with, the same way as
James Brown, .. guests are numerous. This who’s who of soul
is like a big family, always on the move, always striking. You
are faced with a 13 round challenge that won’t leave you
unharmed, believe me (...) I would like to give a few grammies
to the horn section as well as to Mike Armoogum, the bass player
whose drives are always a real delight...(...)
Red Wold is on sale in every good store. I just have to say Bravo!
