The mighty good band Boney Fields was in St Brieuc for the annual « Fête de la Musique » (Music Fest). What they offered to their audience was a dream come true and the public's reaction was unanymous...

Boney and his crew litterally arsonned the Place du Chai on the 21st of June, both with the richness and precision of their music as well as their sheer stage presence. Either with his trumpet stuck on his mouth or singing his raging funk, Boney, with his dreadlocks down to his knees, led his band, - nothing but great players, by the way – each of them soloing in a way that can be only done by some of the best musicians on the planet.

Boney Fields has blessed us with a 2 h 30 long concert. In a beautiful festival hall packed to the rim with an audience mostly made of jazz buffs... But then came Boney and his crew making  a demonstration , together and individually of their incredible musicianship. (…)

Is it still necessary to introduce Boney Fields? With a foot always outside of what is considered blues territory, Boney is revisiting it through rhythm'n'blues, funk, jazz, and why not, even reggae, for our eyes and ears only!

Funk time is here and it is Boney FIELDS & his Bone’s Project who are delivering a sheer energy overload! As the skies are darkening and the weather is refreshing, Boney Fields kicks it all away with his horn lines from another world! Bone’s Project music is a mix of funk overload with red hot blues enriched with vitamins. It sounds as good as James Brown’s Motown, with a few reggae chords coming discreetly only to get a step higher into party time!
The former Luther ALLSION and Alpha BLONDY trumpet player litterally explodes on stage, an incredible and groovy wiggle, making him tread almost every inch of the stage! It’s party time in Bagnols and the audience is just letting it happen! The heat is rising quickly. The guitars solos are rocking, the sax’s solos are orgasmic, like the one on « Got My Mojo Working ». Powerful and Funky! From slow blues to hot boogies, all musicians are involved in each and every song. Musical duels are bursting out for the audience’s greatest satisfaction. Boney is having a good time with the public (…) You have probably got it now, Boney Fields is a hell of a showman !

This Bagnols Blues Festival closing evening was very promising. Boney Fields, ex-trumpet player for the Allison Family, father and son, had the honour of opening it. More funk than blues, the band quickly conquered the audience, with its burning grooves and hot powered horn section, the Bone’s Project.
Boney is a real showman, overflowing with energy. The man knows how to capture the audience and fill people with excitement. He kept us on our toes until the end of his performance, screaming at the public and jumping in style of a James Brown song, alternating blues, funk, rhythm and blues. A real stage performance !!!

Here’s Boney Fields and his Bone Project opening for us. Boney is playing trumpet and singing, with a tenor sax and a trombone to complete his horn section and a very lively rhythm section. Everything is set for a good slice of “swing funk” like one could rarely hear. Especially when Boney starts revisiting Chicago Blues standards in his own Funk and R&B style, just like with “Got My Mojo Working”. The band keeps delivering songs almost non stop. (…) A remarkable trumpet player and a more than decent singer, Boney is demonstrating once again he has got a style of his own.

Boney Fields and The Bone's Project are taking the stage by storm to deliver their show to the audience, a heavy duty funk show. Boney and his Bone’s don’t need lesson from anyone as their show unfolds impeccably, ranging from soul to jazz, with the audience watching aghast.
(…) The genial trumpet player (…) glows with a style revisiting Rhythm 'n' Blues and Chicago Blues, adorned with the band’s constant groove, leaving the necessary room for the charismatic Boney’s stage play and effects. The public is not making any mistake as people quickly get into the groove and start singing the songs’ choruses along (…) This Franco-American band has delighted us for over 75 minutes, encore included, with a wild and colourful concert. No doubt that people who were present will remember them !

With Boney FIELDS at the controls, the audience is guaranteed of a good time. It’s lively, it’s moving and grooving left, right and center, overflowing with energy. Boney has got that rare charisma enabling him to capture the audience’s attention in no time. Not only is he a excellent trumpet player, he is also a fine singer with a sense of humour. He can swap from James Brown to Lowell Fulson or Junior Wells with ease and the filiation is always obvious and natural. And with such a tight band backing him, there can’t be any problem whatsoever(…).
The horn section is the corner stone of the band and I personally find it flawless.
Over the 3 hours of the gig, in addition to the many covers, you can also discover the Bone’s Project original material. All songs are excellent and are encompassing a whole range of influences, notably African. These songs can be heard on the band’s first CD « Hard Work », that I will recommend vividly. But it is on stage that the band takes his real dimension and its beautiful alchemy.

Band leader, composer, arranger, trumpet player and singer, Boney FIELDS has found the best musicians, including a remarkable young Senegalese guitar player and two other horn players whose riffs are as good as their solos. To see the Bone’s Project in concert is to experience what a total show should be: a very tight band, the most powerful arrangements, the virtuosity of the soloists, all this merging together and magnified by Boney’s true sense of showmanship. Here are some adjectives to try to describe the event.
This band is such a groove machine, that even if most of the repertoire is blues-based, incursions in the fields of funk, jazz or even reggae seem natural to the ear, and the audience gets quickly wrapped up in a party atmosphere mode. And to set the record straight, they have recently burnt the house down at the Jazz Club Lionel Hampton, where the public is not especially known for his dancing ...
